Letter From Marcos to His Brother Dear Brother, Sorry I haven't spoken with you in years. I just thought I'd write you a letter about what's been going on in my life.

I enjoyed being the president of the Philippines for four years and I have been reelected again. I was accused of widespread election fraud. I had to leave the country because there were protests against me.

I got in trouble and was convicted of shooting our father's opponent after he lost his election. To tell you the truth, I really did shoot this guy. I know a lot of people wondered about the truth, but I just kept the secret too long. Please forgive me. I wrote my own appeal and luckily I was acquitted.

During the war I was captured by the Japanese, but escaped, and continued to serve as an intelligence officer. When the war ended, I was technical assistant to President Manuel Roxas until 1949.

I served in the House of Representatives and Senate until 1965 when I was elected President.

Due to widespread civil unrest I imposed martial law from September 1972 until January 1973. I lost a highly contested election in 1986, and with the help of the United States, moved to Hawaii, where I remain.

I hope to renew our relationship after I get back to the Philippines.
