The main character of this book is Bilbo Baggins. He is a hobbit, which is a very small person with a big appetite and really hairy feet. One day the wizard Gandalf comes to Bilbo's house and asks him to come along for an adventure. Bilbo says no, but soon Gandalf returns with thirteen dwarves who think that Bilbo is a thief, so they want to take him along for the adventure. Bilbo tries to work his way out of going, but then some of the dwarves doubt his abilities, so he decides to go along. The adventure is to go to a mountain that the dwarves ancestors owned, and retrieve the gold that a large powerful dragon is protecting. Along the way, Bilbo and the dwarves find themselves in many predicaments, including being captured by elves and attacked by giant spiders. There are many other adventures along the way, if they sound interesting to you, read the book and find out for yourself what these adventures are.

The Hobbit demonstrated a very important principle that everyone should believe in. The novel showed us that no matter who you are you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Bilbo doubted himself at first when he started the journey but by the journey's end he developed a greater confidence in himself. When the wizard Gandalf first came to him, Bilbo wanted no part in the journey. He later decided to take part in the expedition because he thought he needed to prove something to the others and himself. Bilbo definitely proved that he was able to handle the pressures of the journey. He was really the main reason they succeeded in their quest.

Another great thing about this book was that it was quite humorous at times. This helped make the book more enjoyable. I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it as much if it didn't have its comedic moments. One of the funnier events in the book was when Bilbo Baggins ran into the creature Gollum. This wasn't at all humorous to Bilbo at the time, but some of the conversation between the two made me laugh. This is just an example of some of the humor included in this wonderful novel.

The Hobbit was good all around but the plot was really what made this novel draw me in. Tolkien was very good at playing this story out and bringing it all together at the end for a great conclusion to the story. I was kept guessing the whole time what was going to happen next. All of the situations the group got caught up in were very well detailed and gave you a really good idea of what was happening. You could really feel what Bilbo and the others were feeling at times.

In conclusion, all I have to say is if you like fantasy books you'll love this book. Even if you don't really like the fantasy genre, you might possibly be able to get into this story. It's a well-written novel and keeps the reader on the edge of their seats the entire time. The Hobbit has everything a reader could possibly want. It has a great plot, some humor, and even teaches some principles throughout the story. I definitely recommend picking up this book if you haven't read it yet, and if you have already read it, why not pick it up again and read it!
