In Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman, Richard Feynman tells stories from his childhood in Far Rockaway, New York to working on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, and everything in between. With all of his accomplishments and most importantly his failures he continually learned new things and had new ideas. This book is an inspiration to work hard and to always want to learn new things. Feynman was as successful as he was not only because he was naturally brilliant, but also because he loved to learn, think, and figure things out. His stories in Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman show how he used different learning techniques, innovative ideas, and sharp thinking skills throughout different stages in his life to become the legend that he is.

It all started in Far Rockaway, New York when Feynman was eleven or twelve years old and set up a lab in his house.

He was a very curious boy always messing with fuses and chemicals, and he fixed radios for people during the depression because he knew how to and he was cheaper labor. He tells of his years working in his aunt's hotel doing all kinds of things and learning that "innovation is a very difficult thing in the real world". After high school Richard went to learn physics at MIT where he used to play tricks on his fraternity brothers, and where he did his papers on his own topics not the assigned topics. Also at MIT Feynman became interested in sleeping and dreaming. He would make observations on himself as he was trying to fall asleep and he would try to interpret his dreams.
