The End of the AffairThe End of the Affair is a love story based on the novel of the same title by Graham Greene. The story revolves around an affair between Sarah Miles played by Julianne Moore, is the wife of a civil servant, and Ralph Fiennes as Maurice Bendrix, a writer. The story picks up two years after Sarah Miles ended the affair between her and Maurice. Maurice bumps into Sarah's husband Henry in the rain. He walks Henry back to his house when he tells him that he suspects that Sarah is having an affair. Henry never knew about the affair between Maurice, but was thinking about hiring a private investigator to see if she was cheating, but instead changed his mind because of his feelings for her. Henry hadn't seen Sarah since their break up, and was jealous at the thought that she was having another affair.

So without Henry's knowledge, he persuade his idea of hiring an investigator out of jealousy of Sarah's possible new lover.

The story is an interesting tale about love, betrayal, and faith. The story recalls much of Maurice's past with Sarah; everything from how they met, to the end of their affair, and as well as the continuation of it. The story is a very unique one, which had me personally surprised. I didn't think it was going to be a very good movie, but the way it was set up was really intriguing. Some may have found it to be too complicated or too hard to follow, but for someone like me, it would be a fairly good movie. All in all, I give this movie 3 ½ stars.

Like Water For Chocolate Like Water For Chocolate is a foreign film from Mexico. This film is a very original, and unique film. In Mexico, it is believed that emotions can be passed down through food depending on the feelings of the cook. That is the basis for this film. The novel, from which the movie is based of the same name, was written by Laura Esquivel. The setting takes place in 1910 in a Mexican border town, where a young lady named Tita lives. Tita was born in the kitchen, forced to come out because of the smell of onions from her mother's cooking. So in a sense, Tita was born to cook. Tita is the youngest daughter of Mama Elena, and because she is the youngest, she is destined to not marry until her mother is dead. Tita falls in love with a man named Pedro, but is forbidden to marry him because of her mother. So instead, Pedro marries Tita's sister, Rosaura just to be close to Tita. Mama Elena purposely puts Tita in charge of the wedding cake. While she was preparing the batter, she began to cry because the man that she loved was marrying another. The next day at the wedding, as everyone ate the cake, they all began to cry. Each and everyone of them felt the same sadness as Tita while she was preparing the cake. Through out the movie, there are various incidents that take place that are similar to this one. Some good, some bad, and some sensual.

This movie has a very creative and original story. The way the movie was set up was also very good, and through out the movie, it also holds a strong sense of irony. I enjoyed this movie a lot, even though it was a foreign film. All in all, I'd give this movie 4 stars.
