The Babysitter from Hell I remember it like it was yesterday. When I was about five years old, my parents hired a babysitter for me. My parents were going out to dinner and then to a party afterwards. I was excited because they would be out very, very late (like, until midnight). I had it all planned out. It would have been the night of my life, but that babysitter was not as cool as I thought she'd be. For this story, we'll call her Carrie.

When I first learned that my parents were going out and I was going to have a babysitter, who was a teenager, I coagulated a plan. It was a simple plan, but it would have been a lot of fun for everyone, but she, Carrie, was not what I though she'd be. The plan started with a good, healthy dinner. The dinner consisted of cookies, like Oreo's and chocolate chip, and ice cream.

My parents always kept good ice cream in the freezer, but at that time I was too short to reach. I assumed Carrie would be the perfect solution. To drink with dinner we would have chocolate milk and pop, and lots of both. After dinner I had the entertainment for the evening arranged, too. We would begin by making the biggest mess anyone had ever see. We would take all of the toys from all of the toy boxes in the house and scatter them strategically throughout the living room. We would hide them in cushions, and behind the TV, and anywhere else we could think of. This task would take up a lot of our time. We would have to make good use of our precious time left together.

The last few hours would be most crucial to the perfect evening. We would begin by playing with the new Nintendo my dad had hidden in the closet in his room. I knew about it because I woke up one night and saw him playing. The next day I peeked into his room and saw the box in the closet. We could play, for a while, the many different games he had. He had adventure games, puzzle games, and even some sports games. When we got bored with playing Nintendo, we would watch scary movies until may parents got home, then I would quickly sneak into bed. We would watch any scary movie we could find in the movie cabinet, and eat popcorn smothered in butter and salt. It would be just like our own private movie theatre. We would turn out the lights to make it even scarier. I wouldn't have to worry about bad, scary dreams because I was five. My bed would be all set for me to jump into as soon as my parents got home. That way, they wouldn't know of all the fun and excitement we had together. Carrie and me would get along so well that she would be my babysitter for all time.

But, boy oh boy, was I wrong. Just because she was a teenager didn't mean that she would be cool. She was the worst babysitter I ever had. She followed all the rules my parents gave her, and not a single rule of mine. For dinner my parents told her that there was liverwurst and frozen peas and broccoli. I really hated liverwurst and peas and broccoli, but she made me eat it. After dinner she wouldn't even help me take the toys out of the toy boxes. Even worse, she wouldn't let me take out more than one toy at a time. And, every toy I took out I had to put it away before I was allowed to play with something else. Then, with the Nintendo, she wouldn't let me into my parents' room to get it out to play with. I even tried the "but my dad let's me do it," line. She just replied, "then wait for your dad to get home." How cruel! I argued with her for a little while, then I gave that up. I decided we could skip that part and go straight to the scary movies. But, she had other, more horrifying, plans. She wanted me to go to BED! I was astounded. What good would going to bed, with the night so young, do for me? Absolutely nothing, that's what. She told me that my parents wanted me into bed at 8:30pm, but I was allowed to leave my light on, to read a book, until 9:00pm. I liked reading, but not on a night where there was so much potential for fun. I fought, and fought, and fought some more, but ended up tiring myself out. After the long battle, I went to bed. My plans were ruined by one evil force, Carrie.

When my parents got home that night, I had been sleeping for a while. I heard the car pull into the driveway, but was too overtired to greet them. It turned out that my parents really liked Carrie, and asked her to be my babysitter on a regular basis. I was mortified at first. But after a while we got to know each other and I started to forgive her for that evil night. I even began to like her. We decided after a while that we would make the evening plans together, with something fun for the both of us. She was a good babysitter, after a few times, but I will never forget that night. She was definitely the babysitter from hell.
